Her thirst for growth led her to explore nursing education before ultimately pivoting toward advanced clinical practice. This shift allowed her to synthesize her diverse academic roots into a singular, focused mission: becoming a Psychiatric Practitioner, equipped to treat patients across the lifespan.

The early chapters of Maryellen's nurse practitioner career were defined by versatility and a commitment to meeting communities where they needed care most. Navigating both traditional behavioral health clinics and integrated primary care models, she honed her skills in psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and medication management for adult populations. During this formative period, she also stepped into the sensitive realm of pediatric foster care. This early exposure to both adult and pediatric psychiatry laid the groundwork for a deeply holistic philosophy, proving her ability to seamlessly adapt her clinical approach to the unique vulnerabilities of different age groups.
